This video streaming service offers a broad selection of quality documentaries, feature films, and training videos from major producers. Made possible with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Getting Started

  • Set up an account with an email and password on the Kanopy website or Kanopy app. A PPL library card number is required.
  • The PIN is by default the last 4 digits of the phone number on your library account.
  • After account is set up, login with email and password.

Specifics

  • Films can be streamed via princetonlibrary.kanopystreaming.com or the Kanopy mobile app.
  • Library cardholders are entitled to 12 tickets worth of content per month.
  • Find the number of tickets required and access period next to the play button.
  • Most movies need two tickets and have a 72 hour access period.
  • Multiple episode videos (TV series, The Great Courses) can vary from 3-5 tickets per series (number of episodes may vary), and can have an access period of 7, 14, or 21 days. Number of tickets and access time differs from title to title.
  • Kanopy Kids offers unlimited viewing of movies and TV, including story times, educational, language learning, and more. It does not use the ticket system.
  • From time to time, a collection of titles with credit-free viewing will be available for a limited time.
  • New titles are added frequently.
  • Titles are removed on a regular basis as well.
  • No overdue fees; items are automatically returned to the library at the end of the lending period.
  • Includes many films from the Princeton Environmental Film Festival (PEFF). Access playlist here, accessible when logged in.
  • Includes titles from BBC, The Criterion Channel, The Great Courses, PBS, and more.
  • Stream to your TV using Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV and more.
