We invite you to check out this month’s PPL Youth Services recommendations for activities, resources and new books in the library collection for children up to 5 years old and their families.
Beginning at 6 p.m., celebrate the wrap up of Summer Reading with games, fun activities and giveaways on the lawn at Princeton Shopping Center. Then at 6:30 pm, the fun continues with an interactive musical performance with beloved children’s musician, author, and educator, Lolly Hopwood and her talented full back-up band. With her guitar, an old suitcase, and a jolly cast of characters – from best friends, Mouse and Robin, to Al and Sal, the hungry alligators – Lolly will have kids buzzing like honeybees, soaring like birds, and planting magical gardens in the forest, while learning to appreciate everything about themselves that makes them unique and special. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to the Community Room at the library.
Join us on Wednesday evening, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. or Saturday morning, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m. for a special-edition storytime about some of your favorite superheroes. It’s time to spring into action, save the day, and enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes all about superheroes for children ages 4 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Registration is not required.
While open all year round, the Watershed Institute in nearby Pennington is especially fun to visit in the summer. A favorite annual summer event is the Butterfly Festival on Aug. 6, with lots of family friendly activities. Along with preschool nature classes, a butterfly house, and an educational nature center with live animals, the Watershed is lovely to visit any day you fancy a walk in the woods.
This hilarious new picture book is perfect for welcoming a baby into the family. While the high contrast illustrations and rhythmic repetition of text are ideal for reading aloud with a baby, the adults will appreciate the humor as they recognize the exhausting challenges of life with a baby in the house.
Make a splash and get ready for pool-time fun with this lively new picture book all about the joys of swimming in a pool with friends and family. Explore even more books about swimming and summer fun, as well as summer-themed songs, rhymes and craft activities, with our Storytime At Home: Summer resource.
