We stand with Princeton’s AAPI community

The Tweet from actor George Takei was a simple and powerful call to action: “The best thing you can do today is to speak out against violence toward Asians in this country, especially if you yourself are not Asian. Thank you to all who use their platform to spread support and love.”

Princeton Public Library uses its platform to condemn the ongoing acts of violence and discrimination against Asian American and Pacific Islanders, which have escalated since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As an institution committed to learning and understanding, we decry the ignorance that is at the core of these escalating acts of hate.

We stand in solidarity with Princeton’s Asian American community and with others in Princeton who are combating all forms of racism and xenophobia. We pledge to continue our work to ensure Princeton is a town where mutual respect and understanding underpin civic life.

We encourage our community to refer to the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association’s Statement Against Anti-Asian Violence and its 2021 COVID-19 anti-xenophobia and anti-racist information resources for further information.
