This autumn ushers in anticipated books from top graphic novelists and debut creators. From poignant memoirs, creepy tales, swoony romances and comedic hijinks, there’s something for everyone to add to their reading list. Here’s a preview of some of the titles hitting our shelves this fall.

“Angelica and the Bear Prince” by Trung Le Nguyen – After an intense bout of burnout, Angelica dips her toes back in with an internship at a local theater company that’s putting on a production of her childhood favorite, “East of the Sun and West of the Moon.” Getting involved also gives her the chance to sleuth out the secret identity of the theater’s mascot with whom she’s been DM-ing. Trung Le Nguyen’s gorgeous debut “The Magic Fish” received accolades in abundance, and this highly anticipated second book is just as enchanting and deft in its balancing of themes of friendship, family and identity.

“Cry Out Loud” by Tara O’Connor – In this spooky mystery, Irish teen Nell is sent to live on a remote island with distant relatives she has never met after getting suspended from school. Acclimating is already hard, and when she becomes the focus of a centuries-old deadly family secret, Nell will need to fight back to save her life. Featuring banshees, cults, curses and time travel, Tara O’Connor’s latest is a dark and twisty story of family, love and breaking generational trauma.

“I Wish I Didn’t Have to Tell You This” by Eugene Yelchin – Acclaimed author Eugene Yelchin switches to the graphic novel format for this powerful follow up to his middle-grade memoir. “The Genius Under the Table Growing up Behind the Iron Curtain.” Rendered in an atmospheric gray palette, this installment chronicles Yelchin’s tumultuous young adult years from 1980 to 1983 as an emerging artist in Soviet Russia — and eventually America.

“On Starlit Shores” by Bex Glendining -In this moving and luminously illustrated tribute to grief, family and love, British teen Alex returns to Indigo Harbour after the unexpected death of her grandmother. As Alex packs up her grandmother’s cottage and explores the mysterious seaside village, she meets important people from her grandmother’s life and unlocks memories once lost. A tender tale with a touch of magic.

“To the Stars and Back,” vol. 1 by Peglo – Fans of Alice Oseman’s “Heartstopper” and K-dramas will want to check out this charming grumpy/sunshine romance story. Introverted university student Kang Dae prefers to spend his time alone, but his new neighbor Bo Seon has set his sights on befriending him. As the pair slowly get to know one another, feelings evolve. Originally released on Webtoon, if you’re one of the more than 1 million subscribers who have already read it online, you’ll want to check out this print edition, which features a new bonus story.

Bonus:Fall sees the release of several new installments of popular manga series, including “The Apothecary Diaries” (Vol. 14), “Blue Lock” (Vols. 22-24), “Blue Period” (Vol. 16) and more. Keep an eye out, too, for the debut volume of “Kamudo,” a new fantasy series from the artists behind “The Legend of Zelda” manga.
