Manager of Marketing & Communications

Princeton Public Library seeks a creative, strategic, and hands-on professional to serve as our Manager of Marketing & Communications. This role is a unique opportunity to shape the identity and public image of one of the nation’s leading public libraries while also rolling up your sleeves to produce high-quality content that engages and inspires our community.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role in a small department, requiring both big-picture thinking and tactical execution. The Manager develops and executes integrated marketing and communications plans that elevate the library’s visibility, promote its wide range of programs and services, and strengthen community engagement. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position combines strategic thinking with day-to-day execution, working closely with staff across the library and supervising a part-time Marketing & Communications Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement campaigns that align with the library’s strategic goals.
  • Manage brand identity, messaging, and design across all platforms.
  • Produce engaging content for newsletters, social media, website, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Oversee the library’s digital presence, including social media strategy, email marketing, and website updates.
  • Coordinate press outreach, drafting releases and serving as media liaison (Executive Director serves as primary spokesperson).
  • Collaborate with library staff, community partners, and vendors to promote programs and initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor the part-time Marketing & Communications Assistant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, preferably in a nonprofit, cultural, or public service setting.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency with digital tools: CMS (WordPress or similar), social media management, email marketing, design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), and analytics platforms.
  • Creative, adaptable, and eager to work both strategically and hands-on in a small team environment.

Additional Information

  • New Jersey residency required within one year of start date (per NJ First Act).
  • Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.
  • Starting salary $75,000 plus excellent benefits.
