At this time of year librarians are full of excitement and book fever. That’s because in spring and early summer two of the biggest book and library conferences occur: Book Expo and the American Library Association Annual Conference. We’ve been busy meeting authors, listening to publishers and sharing our ideas about the new books of the year. It is still early in the game, but children’s librarians are already beginning to share rising titles that might have Newbery potential for the 2013 awards. Here is a beginning list for you to sample and let the games begin!

There are more exciting titles coming to the library soon, so watch for:

“Starry River of the Sky” by Grace Lin

“Twelve Kinds of Ice” by Ellen Obed

“Splendors and Glooms” by Laura Amy Schlitz.

“Dragonswood” by Janet Lee Carey

“Moonbird” by Phillip Hoose

Coming this fall:

“Son” by Lois Lowry, the final book in the Giver quartet

“What Came From the Stars” by Gary Schmidt
