Autumn has arrived, which means the weather is cooling down and Princeton teens are gearing up for exams. If you visit the third floor after school, you’ll see the Teen Center and CoLab packed with groups of students huddled together over a homework assignment or study guide. One of the most frequent questions we receive in the Youth Services department from teens and parents is, “Do you offer tutoring services?” Yes, we do!
Students in elementary, middle and high school can receive free after-school Homework Help from Princeton University students. This drop-in program does not require registration, so just stop by the CoLab between 3 and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the school year. Check the calendar for exact dates.
We’ve also recently added a new resource to expand how and where library patrons can receive tutoring services.
Tutor.com is a service of The Princeton Review, a leading test preparation company. Their AP and SAT test prep books are some of the most frequently checked out items in the library’s teen collection. The online resource provides on-demand academic tutoring, homework help and test preparation by more than 4,000 rigorously vetted and trained experts. Live one-on-one tutoring is available via chat daily 3–11 p.m., which is perfect for late-night study sessions and last-minute exam cramming.
Over 200 subjects are covered by tutors, although Math and English are the top categories utilized by our library patrons. One student commented, “I feel ready for my math test now,” and another said, “[My tutor] helped me structure my essay when I didn’t know where to start.” All our users agree that the service helped them complete their homework, improved their grades and made them more confident about their school work. They all reported that they would recommend tutor.com to a friend.
In addition to homework help and study skills, students can also find test prep materials for the SAT, ACT and AP exams. A video learning library is available for self-paced studying, and there are even college and career resources available.
Tutor.com is for more than just high school students, too: learners from elementary school through adulthood can find assistance here. Career seekers can get mock interview prep, resume and cover letter review, video tutorials and other resources as they pursue their career goals.
Anyone can access the tutor.com database while in the library, even without a library card. Library cardholders can access the service remotely on any device with internet access by entering their card number.
Tutor.com and Homework Help are just two of the many ways Princeton Public Library can help you as a lifelong learner. Explore the resources on the Research page of our website to discover more.
