It can be challenging for parents of the youngest children to keep up with upcoming events at the library and around town, new picture books, music, and helpful apps. That’s why the Youth Services department makes monthly recommendations for things of interest for children ages five years old and younger and their families. Saturday Stories with Katey Howes
To kick off the library’s events on Saturday, March 23 for New Jersey Makers Day, a statewide celebration of making and maker culture, we’re hosting a very special storytime at 10:30 a.m. Children’s author Katey Howes reads from her new book, “Be a Maker” in this storytime for 3 to 6 year-olds. How many things can you make in a day? A tower, a friend, a change? Rhyme, repetition, and a few seemingly straightforward questions engage young readers in a discussion about the many things we make — and the ways we can make a difference in the world. Season of Wonder Puppetry Show
Join us on Thursday, March 28, at 10 a.m. for a special storytime with guest storyteller and Waldorf School early childhood teacher Amy Shor, as we celebrate the wonders of spring through songs, rhymes, and fingerplays, using simple handmade puppets and other surprises from the natural world. Co-sponsored by the library and the Waldorf School of Princeton.
The Littlest Things Give the Loveliest Hugs by Mark Sperring
A sweet, cozy new picture book that celebrates the close bond between parents and very young children with adorable illustrations of various animals cuddling, nuzzling and nestling together. Perfect for snuggling up and reading with your own little huggable one.
Is That You, Eleanor Sue? by Tricia Tusa
When looking for a longer narrative to read with your preschooler, this picture book delightfully satisfies. Eleanor Sue is a master of disguise, but when her mother gets in on the act, along with Grandma, anything can happen. Rockin’ and Groovin’ With Mr. Ray
Get your groove on! On Thursday, March 21, children’s music performer, Mr. Ray, will be rockin’ and groovin’ in MarketFair’s Center Court for a free interactive music event at 10 a.m.
