June top 5 for under 5 – 2020

We invite you to check out this month’s recommendations for activities and resources for children ages birth to five years old and their families. Even though the library’s physical building remains temporarily unavailable, and all in-person gatherings and events are cancelled until further notice, we still have plenty of suggestions to fill your days.

Summer Reading Program 2020

Due to our current circumstances, we’ve had to switch up this year’s Summer Reading program. As a result, registration and tracking has gone virtual! Starting on June 15, sign up online and take the 20/20 challenge. Read with your child for at least 20 minutes a day for 20 days (in a row or not) to earn a virtual badge and an entry into our raffle. Complete extra early literacy activity challenges to earn additional badges and raffle entries. Raffle prizes include a gift basket filled with engaging picture books to add to your home library.

Storytime Songs and Rhymes

Rhyme and sing along with us! Youth Services staff share the best hits of storytime on the library’s YouTube channel for families to enjoy from home whenever they want. Videos of our favorite songs and rhymes from storytime are coming soon, so check back often for new additions to add to your repertoire at home.

Pajama Storytime

Join us on Wednesday evening, June 24, at 7 p.m. for a special “live” virtual edition of our popular Pajama Storytime. Children and parents are invited to wear their favorite pajamas, slippers and bathrobes and cuddle up for an evening storytime. More details to come, so be sure to check our virtual events calendar as we get closer to the date.

Julie’s Library Podcast

Dame Julie Andrews and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, have launched a brand new podcast centered on their favorite read-alouds. It’s a delightful podcast perfect for your preschool child (and the whole family). For more family and kid friendly podcasts, visit our Podcasts for Kids list curated by PPL Youth Services staff.

Preschool Virtual Nature Classes at The Watershed Institute

Connect with Watershed Educators and other students in weekly preschool classes that include crafts, outdoor exploration, and interactive games. This live session will enable children to learn, share their ideas, and interact with us and each other.
