We invite you to check out this month’s PPL Youth Services recommendations for activities, resources and new books in the library collection for children up to five years old and their families.
Join us in the Story Room at the library for Sensory Storytime beginning Monday, Jan. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Sensory Storytime is for all children ages 2 and up, but especially welcoming to those who are differently abled, on the autism spectrum, have sensory processing issues, or feel overwhelmed by noises or crowds. Children are encouraged to bring a favorite lovey, toy, or fidget. This program will occur the second Monday of each month January through May. Registration is required and limited to 12 families with just one registration per family necessary. Registration will open one week prior to each program date. Program dates are: Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8.
Cozy up with a good pile of books this winter and participate in the library’s Winter Reading Challenge for children up to 18 years old. Log 10 days of reading between now and January 15 and earn a free book. Attending storytime at the library counts! Once you’ve logged 10 days of reading with your little one, you have until February 1 to claim your free book. Looking for recommendations? Check out our booklists, PPL’s Top 100 Books for Babies and Toddlers and PPL’s Top 100 Books for Preschoolers.
Wintry weather keeping you stuck inside with restless tots? Time for a spontaneous dance party! Get your groove on with access to hundreds of kid-friendly dance songs through the library’s subscription to Hoopla. All you need is your library card to log in, and the furniture pushed aside.

Bear Has a Belly by Jane Whittingham
This sturdy “toddler tough” book is full of vibrant photographs of animals and young children who share similar body parts like legs, noses, feet, eyes, and bellies. Included in the back are fun activities for parents to share with their children as they read the book together.
