A picture is worth…

…awesome prizes? As suggested by that famous phrase we all know, maybe a picture is worth a thousand words. But this summer at the library, it could also be worth so much more: treats from The Bent Spoon, gift certificates to Labyrinth Books, advanced reader copies of yet-to-be-published books, and a lunch for four at Elements!

As our Adult Summer Reading program kicks into high gear, it’s time to join in on the excellent conversation and share what you’re reading with us. Use your smartphone or tablet to snap a photo of the book that currently has your attention. Then post it to Instagram using the hashtag #PPLReads13. With each post, you’ll be entered to win our weekly and grand prize giveaways mentioned above.

New to Instagram? It is a free photography app that can be downloaded to your mobile device or computer. The app allows you to take pics (or video) with your device and then add filters and descriptive hashtags. With the filters, you can adjust colors, change hues, or apply borders to give your photos a more polished quality. Hashtags, also known as tags, allow you to add descriptions to the photos, such as #beach, #summervacation, or #favoritenovel. Just like on Facebook and Twitter, your friends with Instagram accounts can “follow” you so that your photos will appear in their feeds and they can comment on what you post.

If you don’t have an Instagram account, visit the summer reading banner behind our Welcome Desk. One of our staff members will gladly snap a picture of you holding your favorite title and post it to the library’s feed so that you, too, can be a part of the conversation.

Say cheese!
