Unwrapping the magic of books

It is that time of year when the Youth Services librarians at Princeton Public Library have the happy task of compiling the “Gift of Books” booklists for those who may wish to add books to their shopping lists during this season of giving. And why not? What better way to encourage the love of reading for the young people in your life than giving the gift of books this holiday season.

Every day in the Youth Services department at the library, we see families discovering and sharing the joy of reading together: a child tucked into a quiet corner reading a picture book, a tween chuckling over a new graphic novel, a family sharing a read-aloud together, or teens sharing a new favorite YA book during Go Between Club. Every moment spent reading, either together or individually, is a strong investment in your child’s future.

And if you need some suggestions for book gift-giving, we are here to help you find books for every young person on your list. Take a look at our annual book recommendations for younger children, older children and teens for captivating fiction and nonfiction books. Each book on these lists, updated annually, has been curated by our Youth Services librarians and annotated with the recommended reading age and a brief description.

The library also offers personalized book-shopping assistance for the adults on your list with Book It for the Holidays. Looking for something specific? Fill out our PPL BookMatch form for additional recommendations, and be sure to subscribe to the KTF newsletter to stay informed about the library’s upcoming programs and events for kids, teens and families.

We encourage you to shop locally and support our local independent partner bookstores, jaZams and Labyrinth Books. Don’t forget to visit the library’s used bookstore on the first floor, where you are sure to find great deals on gently used books for all ages.
