Pride Month Art Talk: “Crime Against Nature”

Gwenn Seemel discusses her feminist science picture book, a project she created as a series of paintings with corresponding text to expose the true diversity of natural behaviors.

Seemel will discuss the making of her book and how learning about the true diversity of sex and gender in the natural world can liberate us all.

Since 2003, Seemel has made her living as an independent artist, creating figurative paintings that are brightly colored, boldly painted and joyfully feminist. Her work has been featured on sites like Hyperallergic, Boing Boing, Newsweek, and Bust, and she speaks regularly about nurturing imagination and questioning copyright, most notably at TEDxGeneva in 2014. Born in Saudi Arabia in 1981, Seemel has lived most of her life in France and in the United States.

This event was recorded on June 23, 2021.
