Adult Volunteers for the Library

English Conversation

Volunteers are needed for Conversation Partners, a new service that matches individuals seeking to improve their English language skills with volunteer tutors. English language learners with lower-intermediate to more advanced conversation skills will meet with their tutors for an hour each week for 12 weeks with the option to add more sessions. If you’re a good listener and like to meet new people, we hope you’ll apply below.

Required Tasks
  • Lead informal, hour-long one-on-one conversations with an English language learner at the library
  • Participate in a volunteer orientation process; engage with training materials as needed
  • Refer issues and concerns to library staff as needed
  • Submit monthly attendance reports to the head of adult services
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication
  • Interest in, and commitment to, cultural competency
  • Interest in teaching and leading others
  • Friendly and approachable manner
  • Ability to get along with a diverse group of people
Additional Requirements and Information
  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Participants will meet at Princeton Public Library
  • Time commitment is one hour per week for 12 consecutive weeks
  • Meeting dates and times vary according to the availability of the participants
  • Adult volunteers must undergo a background check
