Adult Volunteers for the Library
English Conversation
Volunteers are needed for Conversation Partners, a new service that matches individuals seeking to improve their English language skills with volunteer tutors. English language learners with lower-intermediate to more advanced conversation skills will meet with their tutors for an hour each week for 12 weeks with the option to add more sessions. If you’re a good listener and like to meet new people, we hope you’ll apply below.
Required Tasks
- Lead informal, hour-long one-on-one conversations with an English language learner at the library
- Participate in a volunteer orientation process; engage with training materials as needed
- Refer issues and concerns to library staff as needed
- Submit monthly attendance reports to the head of adult services
Required Skills
- Excellent communication
- Interest in, and commitment to, cultural competency
- Interest in teaching and leading others
- Friendly and approachable manner
- Ability to get along with a diverse group of people
Additional Requirements and Information
- Must be age 18 or older
- Participants will meet at Princeton Public Library
- Time commitment is one hour per week for 12 consecutive weeks
- Meeting dates and times vary according to the availability of the participants
- Adult volunteers must undergo a background check
