Art Talk: Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilt Guild

This recording is presented by Princeton Public Library. Members of the guild will talk about their current exhibit, “Herstory: In Stitches,” the guild and the art of modern quilting. This event will be in person and virtual.

Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilt Guild was formed over five years ago to support women of color who had a love of quilting. The inclusion of the word, Sankofa, in our name reflects the belief that we have traditions from the past that must be continued in the present and future. Each member has a unique and personal quilt journey that has made them the quilter they are today. Influences from both the past and present impact the style, message and story that each quilt possesses. Artists present will bring a quilt that speaks to her journey as a quilter. This talk will allow you to see the quilts through the makers’ eyes and understand how and why each quilt was made.

“HerStory In Stitches”, featuring 18 quilts from the guild, is on display on the library’s second floor until March 31, 2022.

This event was recored on March 2, 2022.
