We invite you to check out this month’s PPL Youth Services recommendations for activities, resources and new books in the library collection for children up to 5 years old and their families.
On Friday, July 14, from 10:30-11:15 a.m., children ages 2-6 are invited to attend the Teddy Bears Picnic, featuring fun activities selected and led by our teen volunteers with staff supervision. Activities will be located in the third-floor Story Room and Early Literacy area at the library. Attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite teddy bear.
Beginning June 29, early childhood experts Krista Gervon and Jillian Best Adler will lead an informal discussion and support group for parents of infants and toddlers at the library. Continuing on select Wednesdays and Thursdays in July and August, Krista and Jill will be available following Baby Storytime to provide guidance in the areas of infant care, lactation and formula feeding, early childhood development, as well as sleeping, potty training, starting school, and other transitions. They will also be available to help with postpartum challenges such as postpartum physical recovery, nutrition, family adjustment, and emotional support. Dates include July 13, 19, 27 and Aug. 2, 10, 16, 24, 30. Please visit our online events calendar for more details.
Join us in the Community Room at the library on Tuesday, July 25, at 3 p.m. for an all-ages puppet show. This puppetry performance brings to life the classic folktale “Stone Soup” about how kindness, friendship and unity bring a village together. Presented by Robert Rogers Puppet Company.
“What Does Little Crocodile Say At the Beach?” by Eva Montanari
In a follow-up to 2021’s “What Does Little Crocodile Say?” Little Crocodile explores all the sounds at the beach, including the sunscreen going “squirt,” the waves going “splash,” and the seagulls going “ark ark.” Toddlers and young preschoolers will delight in this sweetly illustrated book of sounds at the beach.
“When You Can Swim” by Jack Wong
This new picture book is a gorgeous and poetic exploration of swimming in nature with a diverse representation of children and families. It’s a lovely choice for sharing with young children as inspiration for learning to swim. And, what better time to read together than during the summer months!
