Bio
From the author: Dr. Emelia Timpo is a development expert with specialization in agriculture, HIV/AIDS, gender, and educational policy and significant experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation, education, policy development, and mainstreaming the needs of persons with disabilities. Throughout her years with the United Nations, Dr. Timpo worked extensively on gender issues, specifically women’s economic and political empowerment, capacity building of women’s organizations, and ensuring full integration of gender issues in technical programming.
She held leadership positions for 17 years within the United Nations with UNAIDS and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). She was the FAO Representative in Namibia. She served in Italy, Namibia, Ethiopia, South Asia based in India, Switzerland and the USA.
Dr. Timpo was born and raised in Ghana. She earned a PhD from Rutgers University in Botany and Plant Physiology, a MS in Agronomy from Cornell University, and a Post-graduate professional certification in Management of Non-Profit Institutions from New York University.
She has three adult daughters and lives in East Windsor, New Jersey.
