February top 5 for under 5 – 2020

Check out this month’s recommendations for upcoming events at the library and around town, and new picture books for children up to age 5  and their families, curated by the Youth Services department. 

Chinese New Year Celebration 

Come celebrate the Year of the Rat! On Saturday, Feb. 8, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Princeton High School Mandarin classes and the school’s Chinese Club host a celebration of Chinese New Year for all ages featuring traditional music and instruments, martial arts, calligraphy, painting, dance, origami, games and crafts. This Is Why We Heart You

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to craft a special valentine for someone you love? Children of all ages and their families are invited to join us on Friday, Feb. 14, at 4:30 p.m. in the library’s Story Room as we create valentines for family and friends. Members of the library’s Teen Advisory Board will be on hand to help out and to inspire creativity. Story Room

Leap Day Storytime!

Leap into the library on Saturday, Feb. 29, for a celebration of the day that only comes once every four years. There will be a story time at 10:30 a.m. full of hopping good stories and songs, followed by Leap Day activities and crafts. This program is for children ages 2 and up with an adult.  Story Room

Sharon, Lois & Bram’s “Skinnamarink”

The beloved classic children’s song “Skinnamarink” now has its very own picture book with extra verses. It’s hard to resist singing along while enjoying the warm, wonderful illustrations Qin Leng gives to this celebration of love and community.

“Love From the Crayons” by Drew Daywalt

This sweet and silly ode to love and colors by the creators of the wildly popular “The Day the Crayons Quit” is a perfect book to share with your little valentine.
