Technology Center

The Technology Center is outfitted with 12 Retina iMacs, A/V projection system and lectern. Select iMacs include premium software such as Adobe Creative Cloud. The Technology Center is open whenever classes are not in session. Computers on the second floor are primarily intended for classes, study, and work. Gaming by youth under the age of 18 is not permitted but is allowed on the third floor computers.


Tech Classes

Princeton Public Library offers a variety of technology at all levels. Classes may be held in the library or virtually and may require registration. You do not need a PPL library card to participate. See the Events calendar to view current classes.


Computers

  • The library has PCs and Macs available on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Computers on the second floor are primarily intended for classes, study, and work. Gaming by youth under the age of 18 is permitted only on the third floor computers. All computers include Microsoft Office 2019 and have the ability to print. See our full list of software.
  • Select iMacs in the Technology Center include high-end graphics, video, audio and other professional software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro X.
  • Headsets are required for watching movies or listening to CDs. Earbuds are available for purchase at the checkout desk.
  • MacBook Airs are available for in-house use for library card holders. Restrictions apply. Ask for assistance at the Information Desks on the 2nd or 3rd floors.
  • PPL cardholders may borrow a Chromebook  for home use with a valid PPL library card.


WiFi

  • The entire library has free WiFi with speeds up to 250 Mbps. To join our wireless network, search for Princeton Public Library in your available networks. No password required.
  • PPL cardholders may borrow a mobile hotspot for at home use.


Printing

    • Printing – Print in color or black & white from library computers on the 2nd floor.  Supported page sizes are 8 ½ x 11, 8 ½ x 14 and 11 x 17. Page size and black & white or color must be set before sending the print job. All print jobs can be released at the central print release station on the 2nd floor. Printing is 20 cents per page. Double sided is 4o cents.
    • Wireless Printing – Customers can print wirelessly from a personal laptop or device. Go to princetonlibrary.org/print or download the Public Print Locations app for Apple or Android devices and find our location under TBS-Princeton. Supported page sizes are 8 ½ x 11, 8 ½ x 14 and 11 x 17. Page size and black & white or color must be set before sending the print job. Print jobs can be released at the central print release station on the 2nd floor and must be picked up within 24 hours. Printing is 20 cents per page. Double sided is 4o cents.
    • Copying – A photocopier is available in the Business Center. Print in black & white or color, in sizes 8 ½ x 11, 8 ½ x 14 and 11 x 17. Copying is 20 cents per page. Double sided is 4o cents.
    • Scanning – Two dedicated stations for scanning documents are available in the Business Center. Scanning is free. You can scan to email, Google Drive or a flash drive.
    • Faxing –  Faxes may be sent from the scan stations for free. We cannot receive faxes.


Technology Lending for at Home Use

  • Borrow a mobile hotspot – The library has T-Mobile 4G LTE hotspots available for a two week checkout for PPL cardholders. Cardholders can reserve a mobile hotspot through the library catalog or by calling 609-924-9529, ext. 1210. Cardholders will be required to sign a borrowing agreement and an internet use policy agreement at checkout. The hotspot package includes a hotspot device, a wall charging cable and instructions. Extended use fee is $1 per day. Total replacement cost is $120 including processing fees.
  • Chromebooks – The library has Samsung Chromebook 4 laptops available for a two week checkout for PPL cardholders. Cardholders can reserve a Chromebook through the library catalog or by calling 609-924-9529, ext. 1210. Cardholders will be required to sign a borrowing agreement and an internet use policy agreement at checkout. The Chromebook case includes a Samsung Chromebook 4 laptop, a wall charging cable and instructions. Extended use fee is $1 per day. Total replacement cost is $332 including processing fees.
  • Mobile Internet Kit – The library has mobile internet kits available for a two week checkout for PPL cardholders. Cardholders can reserve a mobile internet kit through the library catalog or by calling 609-924-9529 ext.1210. Cardholders will be required to sign a borrowing agreement and an internet use policy agreement at checkout. The mobile internet kit includes a Samsung Chromebook 4 laptop with charger, a hotspot device with charger, and instructions. Extended use fee is $1 per day. Total replacement cost is $452 including processing fees.


In-Library Tools

  • Phone charging – If you are in the library and your device battery is low, you can borrow a charger from the Information Desk on the 2nd floor. Our chargers accommodate most iPhones, iPads and Android devices. You will be asked to leave an ID while you use these items in the library.
  • Laptop Charging for Mac and PCs – If you have a Mac laptop with a low battery, we have a variety of Mac power chargers for assorted models, available for in-house use. To use one of these items please go to the Information Desk on the 2nd floor. You will be asked to leave an ID while you use these items in the library.
  • Tech Borrowing – We offer a variety of helpful gadgets to borrow for in-house use inside the library including SD Card Readers, floppy drives (for the die hard fans out there), DVD drives and more. Ask at the Information Desk on the 2nd floor to see if we have what you need. You will be asked to leave an ID while you use these items in the library.


Apps

  • Download the Princeton Public Library app for iOS or Android. With our app you can view upcoming events, search the catalog, place a hold, renew items, check your account and more.
  • Download the necessary apps to access our eLibrary collections on a mobile device for reading books and magazines, listening to audiobooks, learning a language and watching videos.
