Spotlight on the Humanities: Timothy Powell on “What Native American Spirituality Can Teach Us about Working on Climate Change”

February 8, 2017, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

As it becomes clearer that climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our age, environmental studies scholars have been working more closely with Indigenous communities to understand how they stewarded the land before European contact. Timothy Powell, a religious studies scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss his work with Ojibwe Indian communities in northern Canada to explore Native people’s knowledge of maintaining the environment. The talk will focus on the important intersections of scientific knowledge and traditional Ojibwe knowledge in the era of climate change.
