We have expanded express services to all three floors of the library. We do not have a date when full services and programs will resume. As with all parts of our reopening plan, we will make adjustments as necessary based on the best practices and experiences of libraries statewide and on the recommendations of the Princeton Health Department. Our paramount concern is for the health and safety of the public and our staff.

If you need assistance, please call us at 609-924-9529, email us or connect via chat during opening hours.

Place & Pick Up Holds

The library is offering two ways to pick up items placed on hold through the library’s online catalog: self-pickup inside the Sands Library Building and by-appointment contactless pickup at the library’s back entrance, off Sylvia Beach Way.

Place holds

  • You can place a hold on most library materials in the online catalog.
  • When your items are available for pickup, you will receive a notification via email or phone.

Pick up your holds

  • Hold pickup shelf: Enter the Sands Library Building during regular operating hours, retrieve your item(s) from the hold pickup shelf and check out at a self-service station.
  • Hold pickup station: In your hold pickup notice you will receive instructions for how to schedule an appointment to collect your holds at the hold pickup station, located at the library’s back entrance on Sylvia Beach Way.
    • Appointments for pickup can be made:
      • Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
      • Tuesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
      • Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
      • Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
      • Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
      • Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Important things to note about this process:

  • Wear a mask when picking up your materials and observe social distancing protocols while in line.
  • We will not be accepting returns at either the pickup table or in the returns slots inside the building. Continue to return materials at the book drops on Sylvia Beach Way, at Princeton Shopping Center or on Palmer Square.
  • The library will not be validating parking for the Spring Street Garage for those who pick up at the hold pickup station at the back entrance. However, 30 minutes of free parking is available for those parking in the garage.

Returns

  • All book drops are open. These are located on Sylvia Beach Way, at the Princeton Shopping Center and on Palmer Square.
  • Due to recommended quarantine procedures, items you have returned may appear on your card for up to a week. Extended-use fees will not accrue during that time.
  • The library is not currently accepting book donations.

Virtual Services

A variety of our services continue to be available virtually for your safety and convenience.

Health & Safety

The health and safety of the public and our staff is our top priority.

Here is what we are doing:

  • Staff will wear masks at all times and maintain social distancing.
  • Plexiglass barriers have been installed at service areas.
  • Hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout the library.
  • Computer workstations have been arranged in a way to facilitate social distancing.
  • Frequent cleaning of the building, with extra care paid to high-touch surfaces.

Here is what you must do:

  • Visitors ages 2 and older will be required to wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth and observe social distancing while in the building.
  • Children ages 12 and under must be under adult supervision at all times.
  • Sanitize your hands upon entering the building.
  • To facilitate social distancing and lessen the risk of transmission in an enclosed space, seating will only be available to those using computers.
  • All food and drink must be consumed outside the building.
