Rethinking Society: Challenges and Hopes for the 21st Century

December 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Marc Fleurbaey, Robert E. Kuenne Professor in Economics and Humanistic Studies at Princeton University, has served as the co-director of the International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP) for four years. At this event he will present highlights and key findings from “A Manifesto for Social Progress,” the companion book to IPSP’s three-volume report “Rethinking Society for the 21st Century.” Written by Fleurbaey and other IPSP members, the book brings together the key messages of the IPSP report on which nearly 300 researchers from around the world worked for three years on the prospects for social progress in the light of today’s social sciences.

Multimedia journalist Sofie Wolthers will screen her documentary “A New Society”. The film follows the passionate group of over 300 academics who comprise IPSP as they create a series of ways to deal with the worlds most pressing issues.  Following the screening Wolthers and Fleurbaey will lead a post-event discussion on the challenges and hopes for the 21st century.

Light refreshments will be served.
