Raconteur Radio presents “The Hobbit”

Monday, January 27, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Metuchen-based Raconteur Radio presents “The Hobbit,” a staged radio play recreating J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous story. The 55-minute production features theatrical lighting, period costumes, Golden Age radio equipment, sound effects and vintage commercials.

In the early 1930s, the English philologist and university professor, J.R.R. Tolkien, wrote the words, “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.” And so began one of the world’s most beloved books. Set in a time “Between the Dawn of Færie and the Dominion of Men,” “The Hobbit” tells is the story of Bilbo Baggins, a half pint homebody whose life is turned upside down when he joins Gandalf the Gray and 13 dwarves on a quest to recover stolen treasure. It is a journey fraught with danger, and in the end it is Bilbo alone who must face the current keeper of this hoard, Smaug the Magnificent, the most dreaded dragon in all of Middle Earth.

This production features Mihael Jarmus as Gollum, Gandalf, and the dragon Smaug; Jeff Maschi as dwarf doyen Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thrain and proud leader of the mission to reclaim Lonely Mountain, and stars Jane Smith, as the titular furry-footed filcher.
