PEFF Special Event: Gilbert Gaul on “The Geography of Risk”
Thursday, October 17, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Journalist Gilbert M. Gaul discusses his book “The Geography of Risk: Epic Storms, Rising Seas and the Cost of America’s Coasts ” with John E. Miller, a coastal floodplain expert who was involved in Superstorm Sandy recovery issues. Gaul’s book looks at the development of the modern coast and the extraordinary risks of building on barrier islands and coastal floodplains. A large portion of the book focuses on the New Jersey Shore and especially Ocean County and Long Beach Island, which were Ground Zero in Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
Gaul twice won the Pulitzer Prize and has been short-listed for the Pulitzer four other times. For more than 35 years, he worked as an investigative journalist for The Washington Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and other newspapers. He is the author of three previous books and lives in New Jersey.
Presented in partnership with the Princeton Environmental Film Festival.
