Author Talk with Sayu Bhojwani on “People Like Us: The New Wave of Candidates Knocking at Democracy’s Door”

Join Sayu Bhojwani in conversation with Leticia Fraga on Bhojwani’s new book “People Like Us: The New Wave of Candidates Knocking at Democracy’s Door.”

Bhojwani is a an author, political scientist and immigrant of Indian descent. In the book, she shares the stories of a diverse and persevering range of local and state politicians from across the country who are challenging the status quo, winning against all odds, and leaving a path for others to follow. Bhojwani served as New York City’s first Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs and is the founder of South Asian Youth Action, a community-based organization in Queens. Since 2010, she has served as Founder and President of The New American Leaders Project, which is based in New York City. An immigrant of Indian descent, she grew up in Belize and now lives in New York City with her husband and child.

 

Fraga, the first Latinx elected to the Princeton Council, was sworn in to office in January. She serves on the Economic Development Task Force; the Local Emergency Planning Committee; the Public Safety Committee; the Public Art Review Committee; the Recreation Commission; the Transit Trust Fund; and the Youth Advisory Commission. She is the former chair of the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF).
