Author Talk: John Calu

Tuesday, August 20, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Novelist John Calu, the author of more than a dozen books, will speak about his recently released memoir In the Name of Grace in which he tells the story of his mother and what it was like to grow up as her child.  On the back cover of the book,  John writes the following:

It has taken me the better part of thirty years to become the son she deserved and just as long to develop the writing skills required to tell her story.   How do you honor a woman who never sought recognition and was always true to her own nature? She was both confident and humble, kind to a fault and fueled by compassion, selflessness personified.  She was also stubborn and determined to do whatever someone said she couldn’t. She was a feminist, a humanist, and a nature loving, spiritual person who never felt the need to tell anyone else what to believe or how to worship.

I am proud to tell her story and overjoyed to share the fortunes I have derived, by simply being born of such Grace.

John will sign copies of the book after the talk.
