Annual Used Book Sale

The Annual Used Book Sale, featuring a large, sorted assortment of books and audio-visual items, takes place in the library's Community Room and in a tent on Hinds Plaza. Our next sale will be held October 17-19, 2014.

Special items at this year's sale include a substantial donation from the collection of John Wilmerding, former senior curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and professor emeritus of American art at Princeton University.  Included in this collection are books inscribed to Professor Wilmerding by Walker Evans as well as other renowned artists and art scholars. We are also featuring a trove of gorgeous gardening books; books signed by Eugene O'Neill, John Dos Passos, Edith Sitwell, Ted Hughes, Leonard Baskin and Abbie Hoffman; J.D. Salinger's "Franny and Zooey" -- one of a number of modern first editions and fine volumes by collectible illustrators including Kay Nielsen's "The Twelve Dancing Princesses".
 

Preview Sale: Friday, 10 a.m. to noon Admission $10, Free to members of the Friends of the Princeton Public Library.  Numbered admission tickets available starting at 9 a.m.

Regular Sale: Friday, noon to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Half Price Day: Sunday 1-5:30 p,m., Community Room

Bag Sale: Sunday, 3-5:30 p.m., Hinds Plaza

Award-Winning Bookstore

The Friends of the Princeton Public Library operate a used bookstore in the library. The store shelves are regularly stocked with books covering a wide range of topics and interests. New titles are added daily. If you are looking for a beach read or that rare, out-of-print title be sure to check out the book sale for reasonably priced books.

In addition to the ongoing sale, the Friends host a three-day Annual Book Sale, featuring special collections and rare books, as well as a vast selection of books in all categories.

All book sale proceeds are used to help the library purchase books and materials and to support programs.

Book Donations

The library gratefully accepts donations of the following: books in good condition; audiobooks on CD; music CDs; DVDs; textbooks with barcodes.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept donations of: damaged, moldy, musty or stained books; paperbacks without covers, yellowed pages, worn spines; professional books such as medical or law books; magazines; encyclopedias; books with underlining or written notes; books more than three years old about technology, business, medicine, travel or self-improvement; LPs, cassettes or VHS tapes

If you are donating more than 10 books, please be sure they are boxed or bagged.

Donations may be dropped off at the library’s delivery entrance, accessible from the Wiggins Street driveway during regular business hours. Please ring the bell at the service entrance. If we are unable to respond to your ring, please visit the main desk on the first floor of the library.
