February, 2014, marks the third year in a row that Princeton Public Library is playing matchmaker. We’ll set you up with a blind date, specially chosen from our collection, if you take a chance and borrow one of the gorgeous gift-wrapped books from the display behind the first floor Welcome Desk.
In continuation of our popular "Get to Know Us" blog posts, I caught up with Princeton Public Library Lending Services staffer Becky Bowers for an interview. Becky works full time making sure the library's many thousands of materials are cared for, and that the customers using them are happy. Becky also oversees the keeping of statistics within the department. If you visit the first floor checkout desk you've probably seen her around!
2014 is shaping up to be a big year for films, and there will be plenty of fodder for book lovers as well. Here is a list of ten not-to-be-missed movies that are set to hit the silver screen this year, all of which got their start on the beloved page. It's generally accepted that the book beats the movie every time, so start reading!
Earlier this month, as 2014 was ringing in, a quiet and touching tribute to Princeton Public Library’s former special collections librarian, Terri Nelson, was published in Town Topics. You might have missed it, just like you might have missed seeing Terri, "the librarian on the bench." Library staffers found the piece to be an interesting personal testimony, and we shared it together. We hope you will, too.
Your input is important to us. The library encourages feedback to help us offer programs that you find valuable, informative and entertaining. With your ideas, we can consider how to expand our programs and services, improve how we do things, and purchase books and other materials that might not have been included in our collection.
Now that we're into the second full week of 2014, it's likely that some of us have fallen off-track in keeping our New Year's resolutions. Life (or maybe a polar vortex) just gets in the way sometimes, even with the best of intentions. But it's not too late to give up on this revitalizing practice. Whether you're looking to try something new, make a big decision, become healthier, finish a project, learn a new skill, or something totally different, there are many great apps that can make sticking to your resolutions a little bit easier.
It's the start of a brand new year and instead of listing my resolutions (most of which I have already broken), I will indulge myself in another "bestseller" Princeton Public Library list. In the past I have made lists of the most popular books, music CDs, and DVDs at the library. This time I will list the ten items with the highest circulation numbers for all time. These ten titles have proven to be incredibly popular over the years and, even though they may be a bit worn, they are still being checked out.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Roary the lion and I am the most sought out member of the Youth Services department. Why am I so popular? Well, that’s an easy answer. I am cute, cuddly and furry and I love a good adventure. Speaking of adventures, I have had quite a few since I came to the library earlier this year. Did you know that I can visit your house too and have adventures with you?
